插畫是視覺傳達的一種重要藝術形式，以其直觀的形象性，將文字內容、故事或者是思想以視覺化的方式呈現(xiàn)。 其背后的市場和特定的對象，更使插畫有著視覺傳達的大眾傳播性。 它不關乎媒介，卻講究表達，它結合著各種相關設計，如文字編排、空間的表現(xiàn)、線條變化或是綜合材料以多向地非語言形式來傳播語言的深層含義。
